Carbon Footprint Project

PROJECT FOOTPRINT

Use a carbon footprint calculator to make an assessment of your own basic footprint.

Reduce your footprint in some manner.

Document how you accomplish this.

Most of these calculators look at the primary uses of energy in our lives; electricity, heat, transportation, air travel, food and how we deal with waste products.

Are there others?

It may be possible to eliminate whole categories i.e. “ I will no longer fly in airplanes”, “all of my home electricity will be from renewable energy”, “I will walk or ride a bike everywhere” etc.

Or more likely it will be a process of re-designing, re-imagining or simply simplifying the many aspects of these categories.

The purpose of this project is for you to identify an aspect of your life that has a carbon impact and to then rethink it in order to reduce or eliminate that impact.

What food do I eat? How do I communicate with others? How do I handle my own waste? How do I move from one place to the next? Where do I live?

What is important to understand is that we all generally behave alike and that any change in personal behavior, if applied collectively has enormous impact.

“ There is also high agreement and medium evidence that changes in lifestyle, behaviour patterns and management practices can contribute to climate change mitigation across all sectors”
